AgCounsel is the go-to resource for farming and ranching families looking to engage in succession and estate planning. We started AgCounsel to serve a unique need that we saw in the market for farming and ranching families.  That need was identified through our years of practice as estate planning attorneys.  We found that farming and ranching clients had much different needs than most of our clients, and those needs were being severely underserved.

Let me illustrate this need for you with a personal story.  This note came from my grandparents.

They owned a cattle and chicken farm  down in South Arkansas called Tri S Farm, named after their three daughters.  Their home was on the farm and they raised their family on the farm.  I spent most summers there.  The time came when my grandparents could no longer take care of themselves, much less the farm, and they moved into assisted living.  My grandma left this note on the table for the girls as she left. IThis note illustrates how a farm means more to a family than just a piece of land.  It is their legacy.  Families develop a deep emotional attachment to the land.   As for my grandparent’s farm, part of the farm is still in the family today, but much of was sold. In some cases, this is what is best for the family and what is desired, and in other cases, families want the farm to remain in the family forever.  The perfect scenario for some farmers is they time travel a hundred years from now and this same land is still being farmed by someone who bears their last name. That is the purpose of AgCounsel. That is our “why.”  We want to provide farm families with the opportunities and resources to preserve their legacy and have their desires carried out, and we know how to do it.
